Wiley Hurst

Wiley was born in 1936 at Farwell, Texas. When he was very young, Wiley's father moved the family to Yakima, Washington, to work in the fruit orchards. Shortly after they arrived in Yakima, Wiley's father was killed in an orchard accident.

After graduating from the University of Oregon, Wiley enrolled in law school at the University of Idaho in 1958. He graduated in 1961. After passing the Washington State Bar exam, he took a position with Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Wiley spent nearly five years with the Prosecutor's Office and eventually decided to enter private practice. After an initial stint as a junior associate with a sole practitioner he joined a two-man partnership as a trial lawyer.

Since that time, Wiley has enjoyed a very long and successful career doing plaintiff work in Yakima. He and his two partners, Scott Brumback and Joseph Brusic, limit their practice to personal injury and worker's compensation claims.

M. Scott Brumback

M. Scott Brumback was born in Michigan. Scott enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1979 as an armored crewman. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Augsburg, Germany, and Fort Carson, Colorado, and rose to the rank of Sergeant. After four years in the Army, Scott attended Michigan State University. He earned degrees in Political Science and German. Scott then attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law and graduated in 1991 with his Juris Doctorate. After a short stint in private practice, Scott took a position with the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney's office. Here Scott was able to try many cases before juries and the bench. In 1995, Scott went to work for the City of Yakima Legal Department. Again, Scott's focus was on handling criminal trials. Then in 1998, Scott joined the personal injury law firm of Wiley Hurst & Associates. In 2000, Scott became a partner in the Hurst firm where he continues to focus on the needs of people injured in personal injury and on-the-job accidents. In addition to his private law practice, Scott has also kept active in the military. Presently, Scott has over 20 years of military experience. After having spent more than 11 years as an armored crewman (and tank commander) while rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, Scott now serves as a JAG officer in the U.S. Army (Reserves). He has traveled with the U.S. Army to Germany and South Korea in addition to stateside assignments. Scott has also served as a Judge pro tempore in Yakima County District Court. Scott is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, The Washington State Trial Lawyers Association, the Yakima County Bar Association and the National Rifle Association. Scott is admitted to practice law in Washington State and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Washington.

Joseph A. Brusic

Joseph A. Brusic was born June 8, 1963. He was raised in Yakima and graduated from Carroll High School in 1981. He attended the University of Washington from 1981 to 1985. He then enrolled in the University of Puget Sound School of Law (now Seattle University School of Law) from 1985 1988. Upon graduation from law school in 1988, Joseph began his legal career by working at the Kitsap County Prosecutor's Office in Port Orchard, WA. He remained there until January, 1991, when he and his family moved back to Yakima where he began working at the Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. While there, he prosecuted general felonies and misdemeanors, with a focus on sexual assault and physical abuse crimes. He also supervised the juvenile division of the Prosecutor's office beginning in 1994 up to 2001. Joseph left the Prosecutor's office in October, 2001, and joined the Yakima personal injury firm of Hurst, Brumback & Beattie. In 2004, Joseph became a partner in the Hurst firm along with Wiley Hurst and Scott Brumback. He specializes in the litigation phase of assisting injured clients in their personal injury and worker's compensation claims. He is dedicated on both a professional and personal level. He has been a long-time soccer and basketball coach for area children. He has been a member of the St. Paul's School Board since 2001. Joseph is admitted to practice law in Washington State and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Washington. Joseph is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association and the Yakima County Bar Association.
